El sitio elmundo.es bajo el título ‘No utilice las cucharas caseras para el jarabe‘ nos detalla varias razones por las cuales no deberíamos hacerlo. En primer lugar nos explica que la administración de jarabes a los más pequeños con este utensilio casero se ha detectado como una de las principales causas de dosificación errónea y de envenenamiento en los menores. Ahora bien, ¿por qué mucha gente hace esto? Un buen número las utiliza creyendo de que así no cometerán errores en la dosis o en caso de que sí los hubiera éstos no afectarán por tratarse de diminitos. Sin embargo, si emplean una cucharita de café o la cantidad de medicamento parece escasa a la vista, muchos pacientes y papás suelen compensar esta deficiencia aparente utilizando una nueva dosis. Juan Casado, jefe de Servicio del Hospital Infantil del Niño Jesús y profesor de pediatría de la Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, reconoce que “los medicamentos en los niños se dosifican por el peso, casi todos, algunos por la superficie corporal, que es en función del peso y la talla. La dosis por tanto es fija para el peso y no puede administrarse una cantidad aproximada, sino la que corresponda. Por ello debe medirse con un medidor, una jeringuilla o con el dosificador, y nunca aproximada. La cuchara de alimentación puede emplearse sólo como vehículo no como dosificador”, concluye. De hecho en cuanto a esto se realizó un estudio en el que participaron varios universitarios. Consistía en que agregaran una cantidad exacta de jarabe en dos cucharas diferentes, una mediana y la otra pequeña. ¿Que paso? Los participantes depositaron una dosis un 8% menor cuando emplearon la cuchara mediana y hasta un 11% mayor cuando depositaron el líquido en la más grande. Y eso que habían sido entrenados para no cometer ese error. Lo que muestra lo peligroso de no asegurarse o medir la cantidad de líquido. Los investigadores concluyen que si “la eficacia de un fármaco está asociada a su correcta dosificación es muy importante concienciar a los enfermos o a los familiares de los mismos de la necesidad de que no recurran a las cucharas caseras para consumirlos y en cambio empleen los dosificadores que adjuntan los medicamentos” |
